The experience

Pyramids, pottery and prehistoric landscapes

The Desert Escape is a short journey from the energy of Cairo into the open landscapes of Fayoum.

Begin with the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum before travelling to Tunis Village, known for its pottery workshops and creative community. From there, explore Wadi El Rayan by 4×4 and continue into the desert to Wadi El Hitan, where prehistoric whale fossils reveal a time when this landscape lay beneath the sea.

A short journey for travellers who want to experience Cairo and the Egyptian desert without rushing through a long itinerary.

Frequently asked questions

How many nights are included in the outline?

Two nights in Cairo and two at Remal El Rayan: five days and four nights in total. An extra Cairo night can be added.

Will we camp in the desert?

Your desert base is Remal El Rayan, a glamping property. Your proposal confirms the room or tent category and its facilities; this is not a self-supported camping trip.

Can we try pottery?

Yes. A hands-on pottery session in Tunis Village is optional and can be included in your personalised programme.

Can we visit Khan el-Khalili on the final day?

With a sufficiently late flight, we can arrange a visit before your airport transfer. For an earlier flight, travel directly from Fayoum to the airport; very early departures may require an extra Cairo night.

Can children join?

Yes. We discuss children’s ages, walking distances and comfort on desert tracks, then adapt the programme.

What travellers take home

Accommodation photographed during Diego and Ana’s trip
A stay from Diego & Ana’s trip

The camp felt authentic, rather than staged for tourists — Bedouin hosts, real conversations and food cooked over the fire. My husband, who isn’t usually keen on camping, enjoyed every second. Cairo rounded off the trip perfectly with the pyramids and a felucca ride on the Nile. Highly recommended for couples looking for something quieter than the usual route.
